Journal post - end of week #1

Well, I weighed and measured myself for the first time in a week. No change at all in anything. But I am not discouraged! I know that it takes my body a long time to change, in either direction actually. When we went on furlough a year ago (for 6 months) I was not all that careful about what I ate. I wanted to enjoy the food and drink choices that were now available to me! well, it took about 2-3 months of eating badly to reflect in my weight. So I am figuring that I probably need to go at this at least a month before I start seeing some positive change in my weight (negative on the scale of course!)

This is the end of my third day of NO dessert (it's Wednesday night here.) You have no idea how significant this is for me! I have never done this before! I am not saying NO sugar because that is almost impossible where we are living. But no desserts except for that one free day a week. It has been a challenge at times but honestly not as hard as I thought it would be to just say NO! I have not had that "treat" in between meals, or after meals like I usually do. We even went to a friends' house for a little birthday party last night, and I had NO cake or ice cream! I miss it, but not as much as I thought I would. This is definitely do-able! I am not really making much change to the rest of my diet, I am just going to see how this one change will affect me.

Oh, and I made a great no-sugar-added treat the other day! My house helper brought me 6 pineapples (her sister had been back to their home village over the weekend). They were pretty ripe, past the point where I would just want to cut them up into pieces and eat them. So, I chopped them all up, threw them into the blender a bit at a time (with a bit of water), strained the resulting pulp, added a bit of lime juice, and put it into the ice cream maker. Voila! Pineapple sorbet! Now THAT is a dessert I am allowed to have! :-)

I love the pineapple dessert! I enjoy making smoothies quite regularly--when the weather is warmer. Now that spring is in the air here, I'll be back to making them more often. But, this just gave me the urge, so I may make one when I get home from work!

BTW--congrats on the no dessert thing! It does get easier...and when you do have them have small portions..rather than gigantic portions...makes you savor the bites! ;-)

Praising the Lord with you on your control over deserts! ;) This was the area I had to work on too. I still do. WE are with ya!

I need to buy some more fruit!

Keep Springing!

thanks ladies for your comments. It is very encouraging to me that I have made it 3 days without dessert so far. I did not think that this is something I had the discipline to do!!!

Great job on the no dessert part. The pineapple sorbet sounds delicious and refreshing. I love pineapples.

Dessert is a weakness for me. Yes, it still is. I still have them from time to time in smaller portions, like Donna. I also know that I have to work extra hard when I do have them.

Keep up the good work.
