A very humbling experience

Hi everyone! I just had to share this experience with you all. As you all know, I'm a walker. Sometimes, I feel like I can walk forever. Well...because so many of you are runners, I decided to give it a try (my doctor I'm sure would cringe at this idea). Anyways, I took off running after doing Jillian's 6 week, 6 pack. I decided I needed another 20 minutes or so to make a complete 60 min. workout for the day.

I started out pretty strong, it didn't take long for my heart rate to get up there specially after doing a Jillian workout. I decided to push myself. Well I did and my heart rate was staying in the 170's, once it got to 179 I decided I needed to slow down. Supposedly, the max heart rate for my age is 175. Well I guess, I proved that wrong, because I was still breathing. It did scare me a bit though. It's funny, because my mind and legs were still wanting to run, but, I had to slow down and start walking again. I walked the rest of the way. I managed to get 2 miles in.

Conclusion, I was reminded why I am a walker and not a runner. It is a very humbling experience for this very competitive person. This prayer came to mind.

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference".

I need to remind myself, over and over again, that God created us all to be different, with different abilities. I am very thankful that he has given me the abilities to do the things I can.

So, kudos, to all you runners out there. May God always give you the strength to be able to do it.

I won't promise that I won't try again in the future, just not in the too near future. LOL!!!

You have to start slow if you're going to start, but I'm way impressed that you tried and did that much! Don't kill yourself on the first try though or it really is pointless! :-)

That is great that you gave it a try and were also smart enough to realize that it's not the right time for you to run... Myself I'm not a runner at all but I like to jog mostly on the treadmill though I'm to easily distracted outside. when I first started Jogging I would walk for 5 minutes then jog for 5 even now I can only Jog for 10 minutes before I walk again but I've increased the speed of my walk a little but as Dani says this is a "fitness journey" for me it will be a long jouney before I can jog a full 30 minutes (my personal goal) without walking but with the Lord's strength I will do it! and you will meet your goal as well the best advise I can think of is to set a reasonable goal and pray about it A LOT

Don´t worry, I can´t run either, even after doing the shred with JIllian for a month I still can´t, so I just keep walking or exercising.
